Upon entering the Boston you are greeted by an enormous living space with numerous windows and sliding patio doors ensuring natural light reflects throughout the open-plan interior. At the heart of the Boston is a large feature kitchen, central to which is a stylish extractor hood suspended over a modern five-burner hob providing a contemporary feel to this outstanding model.

The roomy open-plan living area is beautifully decorated with free-standing sofas, contemporary fireplace and eye-catching ceiling pendant light.

The Boston is full of surprises including a perfectly proportioned cloakroom to the entrance, a practical solution for hiding away unsightly coats and shoes, and generous walk-in wardrobes to both the main and twin bedrooms.

A visit to Killhope, the award winning North of England Lead Mining Museum, is a unique and unforgettable experience. Killhope is a fully restored nineteenth century lead mine, where you can experience for yourself the life and work of the lead mining families of the Pennine dales.

Our enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff are here to help you get the most from your visit, they are what makes Killhope a multi award wining venue.

Killhope is famous for its huge working waterwheel, but there is much more to Killhope. You can experience the mineshop where miners lived. You can work as a “washerboy” looking for minerals and galena (which is the lead ore). You can see the working machinery (which Fred Dibnah admired so much) in the “jigger house”. But above all, Killhope’s award-winning mine tour is unique.

From the moment you put on your hard hats, cap-lamps and wellingtons, your visit becomes an unforgettable adventure!

Killhope holds the national collection of Spar Boxes which sits alongside Magnificent Minerals and the Pennine Jewels. Two new permanent comissions, Letters of Lead and Language of  Lead, part of  museumaker, a prestigious national project.

Beamish is a world famous open air museum. We tell the story of life in North East England in Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian times.

Beamish stands in 300 acres of beautiful County Durham countryside. Within our site you will find Pockerley Old Hall, The Town, Rowley Station, The Fairground, Home Farm and The Pit Village. With so many things to see, Beamish is a wonderful day out for people of all ages.

Most of the houses, shops and other buildings you see here have been brought to Beamish, rebuilt and furnished as they once were. Some, such as Home Farm, Pockerley Old Hall and the drift mine, were here already.

Each area of the Museum tells the story of Georgian, Victorian or Edwardian living. You can see how life in North East England changed over 100 years, from a Georgian Agricultural lifestyle to the Industrial Revolution.

You won’t find objects displayed in glass cases at Beamish, you’ll see them in their original context. What’s more, you will meet our costumed staff who are proud of their heritage and happy to share their knowledge with visitors.

You can experience life down a drift mine, try some tasty baked goods from Home Farm, and meet the many animals who live here at Beamish, like the Curly Coat Pigs up at Pockerley Old Hall.

If you don’t fancy walking, there are vintage trams and buses, including our Access Bus, to make travelling around the museum easier, and even more exciting!

Beamish is a living working museum, where there are always new things to see and experience. Beamish is an engaging day out for the whole family!
